Inkybear Stencil Experiments: Cloud, Spike, Lightning

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

I got really excited after the inkybear stencil flip experiments… I thought how cool it would be if the stencils ended in some kind of “texture” or pattern that I could bleed over with my roller.

So I created 3 new stencils, all smaller than the one I made for the original inkybear stencil: Cloud, Spike and Lightning.

Here’s a hero shot of the Lightning group (the best of the bunch):

Inky Bears – a One Off Stencil-Flipping TShirt Experiment

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

For the live tshirt printing at DesignBox I had to research a new method for printing… I didn’t want to use a screen because they clog quickly and have to be cleaned soon after you’re finished. Not great for one offs. I chose to use stencils, spray mount and these little roller brushes used for trim painting in houses.

While printing that night I thought of flipping the stencil and using 2 different colors. Every time you flip the stencil you’ll get the ink pressed on from the side you just printed. Make sense? So here’s an inky bear (my newest little critter) printed using this method:

Trauma Queens TQ’d Shirts

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

My wife, known to most of the world as “Roxy Rockett,” was once the captain of the Trauma Queens. I designed this logo for them with LOTS of help and feedback from the team!

Here’s me modeling it:

Three Foolish Bachelors

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

I designed this for some friends in Lexington, KY who wrote and put on a play called… THREE FOOLISH BACHELORS! It was great fun!

A bit more about the play:

Eliza and Bankman

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

I designed this shirt for Carmin my step daughter. She and I are going to work on a dog-rider to add to the series of princesses who ride animals, smile and carry weapons. This design inspired me because it forced me to cut narrow lines… I’m more comfortable “composing” my stencils with shapes than lines usually.

Do note that this is the Ninja Fetus… yes THE Ninja Fetus by Fort Cloudy on Eliza’s shield. He’s the emblem of her princessdom. Carmin gave me a Ninja Fetus for Christmas this year and I wanted to make sure he felt included.

I am tired in this picture because we just got back from breakfast and had Brandy’s birthday party yesterday.

This shirt is a one off for family and NOT for sale… You can buy Echoboy shirts if you want though :D .

Rockett Boosters TShirt

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

I made this design for the fans and supporters of my wife whose roller derby name is Roxy Rockett (she also took these pictures). Tai Chi-Tahs co-captain Kelly Clocks’em here models a ginormous Rockett Boosters shirt that she got surgical with. Yay for t shirt surgery!

I’m especially pleased with how the flames turned out. You can see them more clearly in this shot:
